Tips for Dealing with Crow's Feet

Fine lines around the eyes, commonly called crow's feet, are a sign of a life well lived. This is because the common causes, other than aging, are smiling, laughing, and spending time outdoors. Even so, you may not want crow's feet to be the main feature on your face. The following tips can help you minimize the appearance of your crow's feet without surgery or invasive procedures.

Tip #1: Change your habits

Some habits lead to crow's feet or lead to the deepening of those you already have. If you aren't already wearing sunglasses regularly, now is the time to start. This is because squinting in bright light deepens the lines. Both your eyes and the skin around your eyes will thank you. Another easy change is to switch out your pillow case for a silk case. Cotton has more friction, which means it can pull on your facial skin as you sleep. Silk allows your skin to slip over the surface of the fabric if you toss and turn, and this means less stress on the sensitive skin around your eyes.

Tip #2: Protect against the sun

There are more wrinkle concerns pertaining to the sun than just squinting. The UV light can be especially harsh and drying on your skin, making wrinkles appear deeper over time. The fix is simple: wear a foundation or moisturizer that provides UV protection and consider adding a large brimmed hat to your outdoor wardrobe.

Tip #3: Stay hydrated

Dehydration often shows first in your skin, which means fine lines can become deeper and more defined. Your best option for hydration is plain water. Caffeine-loaded beverages, like tea and coffee, can act as diuretics and leave you even more dehydrated. Carry a water bottle with you everywhere, and make sure you are drinking from it often.

Tip #4: Moisturize correctly

Outside moisturizers are a must, especially as your skin ages. While an all-purpose facial moisturizer is helpful, consider investing in a hydrating eye cream to help target the crow's feet. Rub the cream into the area around your eyes every morning and night. Most creams contain plumping agents that temporarily plump the skin and help minimize the appearance of the lines.

Tip #5: Get enough sleep

Finally, make sure you are sleeping well and for a sufficient length of time. Too little sleep leads to deeper lines because of the stress of the tired muscles. Dark circles also make lines appear deeper, even if they aren't deep. Being well rested is an excellent way to improve your overall appearance.
